The ÖBB X627.7 represents one of Plasser & Theurer built a railroad maintenance vehicle - series of ÖBB is that was specially designed for tunnel rescue operations.

history

In contrast to other railway companies, the Austrian Federal Railways only kept wagons ready for the transport of fire engines and emergency services for long new tunnels . In an emergency, however, these could not be transported into smoke-filled tunnels with normal vehicles because of the risk of explosion . Therefore, the ÖBB procured two railway service vehicles of the OBW-10 family, which were equipped with explosion protection and other special equipment. After several missions, however, it became clear that the X627.7 series was not able to rescue a vehicle from the danger area. Therefore, several fire brigades in Austria received special fire engines that can also run on rails . Despite these inadequacies, both vehicles are still in the active inventory of ÖBB.

technology

By and large, the X627.7 series corresponds to the OBW-10 family from Plasser & Theurer. The vehicles are supplied with a 200 bar compressed air brake that is carried on a sidecar. The entire drive system (special motor, exhaust pipes and compressor) is water-cooled and provided with explosion protection in order to prevent the surface temperature from exceeding dangerous 160 °. The two X627.7s are - like most of the ÖBB service vehicles - painted yellow and have a corresponding logo on the front and side.

commitment

One vehicle is stationed in Pöchlarn , the other in Hall in Tirol .
