(22903) Georgeclooney is an asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on October 14, 1999 by the Italian amateur astronomer Sauro Donati at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Monte Agliale ( IAU code 159) in Cune, a district of Borgo a Mozzano . It had sightings of the asteroid previously on November 3, 1988 under the provisional designation 1988 VY 7 at the Karl Schwarzschild Observatory in the Tautenburg Forest and on April 20 and 22, 1998 (1998 HU 137 ) at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test System in Socorro , New Mexico as part of the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) project.
The solar orbit of (22903) Georgeclooney is strongly inclined at more than 25 ° to the ecliptic of the solar system and strongly elliptical with an eccentricity of 0.2435 . The asteroid is in a 2 + 3-1- orbit resonance with Jupiter and Saturn .
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 3.434 km (± 0.053) and the albedo to be 0.236 (± 0.034).
(22903) Georgeclooney was named after actor George Clooney on June 13, 2014 . Two films in which Clooney played were particularly highlighted in the naming text: “ Solaris ” from 2002 and “ Gravity ” from 2013 .
