(2600) Lumme ( 1980 VP ; 1951 EC 1 ; 1975 VH 5 ) is an approximately 15 km large asteroid of the outer main belt that was discovered on November 9, 1980 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Lowell Observatory , Anderson Mesa Station ( Anderson Mesa ) near Flagstaff , Arizona ( IAU code 688). It belongs to the Eos family, a group of asteroids named after (221) Eos .
designation
(2600) Lumme was named after the Finnish astronomer Kari Lumme , who worked at the University of Helsinki . He examined the scattering of light on the rings of Saturn .
