(2977) Chivilikhin ( 1974 SP ; 1977 EG 2 ) is an approximately nine kilometers large asteroid of the central main belt , which was discovered on September 19, 1974 by the Russian (then Soviet Union ) astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory (Nautschnyj branch) on the peninsula Crimea ( IAU code 095) was discovered. It belongs to the Gefion family , a group of asteroids named after (1272) Gefion .

(2977) Chivilikhin was named after the well-known Soviet writer Vladimir Alexejewitsch Tschiwilichin (1928–1984).
