(42113) Jura is an asteroid of the central main belt discovered at the Jura Observatory ( IAU code 185) in Vicques in the canton of Jura on January 15, 2001. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already occurred on October 2 and 8, 1999 under the provisional designation 1999 TD 98 at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test System in Socorro , New Mexico as part of the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) project.
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 4.451 (± 0.893) km .
(42113) Jura was named on July 24, 2002 after the canton of Jura. The Montes Jura mountain range on the Earth's moon , on the other hand, was named after the Jura Mountains in 1961 .
