(6927) Tonegawa is a asteroid of the main belt , the October 2, 1994 by Japanese amateur astronomers Kin EnDate and Kazuro Watanabe at Kitami Observatory ( IAU code 400) on Hokkaido was discovered.
The asteroid was named on August 8, 1998 after the Japanese molecular biologist and immunologist Susumu Tonegawa (* 1939) who received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1987 for his discovery of the genetic basis for the development of the abundance of variations in antibodies .
