(8144) Hiragagennai is an asteroid located in the outer main belt , which was discovered on November 14, 1982 by the Japanese astronomers Hiroki Kōsai and Kiichirō Furukawa at the Kiso Observatory ( IAU code 381) of the University of Tokyo .
The asteroid is a member of the Koronis family, a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis . The timeless (not osculating ) orbital elements of (8144) Hirgagennai are almost identical to those of eleven other asteroids such as (34103) Sugankannan and (71447) 2000 AY 239 .
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 6.612 (± 0.119) km .
(8144) Hiragagennai was named on January 6, 2003 after the Japanese scholar, inventor and writer Hiraga Gennai (1728-1780).
