1984 is the sixth album by the American hard rock band Van Halen . The most famous single from the album is Jump .
Publication and Success
The album peaked at number two on the Billboard album charts. In first position at that time was the album Thriller , in which Eddie Van Halen had also contributed to Beat It . Although Eddie Van Halen was previously only known as a guitarist, he recorded the keyboard parts on the album , which particularly characterize the songs I'll Wait and the intro to 1984 .
The album is one of the two Van Halen albums that sold more than 10 million copies in the US alone. In 2009 it achieved platinum status in Germany. 1984 until A Different Kind of Truth from 2012 was the last album with singer David Lee Roth . He left the band the following year due to tension with Eddie Van Halen and started a solo career.
The single Jump was one of the biggest hits of the year. The song Panama was also released as a single and reached number 13 on the charts. The song was used in the 2005 video game Gran Turismo 4 .
