- The vandal campaign of the Western and Eastern Roman Empire under the leadership of Emperor Leo I failed miserably, not least because of the rivalries between the Western and Eastern Roman commanders Ricimer and Basiliskos .
- The later emperor Julius Nepos becomes Magister militum for Dalmatia .
- The Visigoth King Euric breaks the treaty with the Western Roman Empire and sets out to conquer the last remaining Roman bases in southern Gaul .
- Lusidius, the Roman city commander of Colonia Felicitas Iulia , today's Lisbon , hands the city over to the Suebi under Remismund to protect it from being conquered by the Visigoths.
