- September 6th : The Roman Emperor Theodosius I defeated his opponent Eugenius and his magister militum Arbogast with his generals Stilicho and Alarich in the Battle of Frigidus in the Vipava Valley near the Birnbaumer Forest in present-day Slovenia. Arbogast commits suicide after the battle, while Eugenius is slain by enemy soldiers. The Roman Empire is united in one hand for the last time (for 4 months). The general Stilicho, who was successful in the battle, becomes commander-in-chief in the west.
- The Huns cross the Danube , whereupon the Visigoths finally leave their seats on the Black Sea and move through the Roman Empire.
