Politics and world events
When relations between the Western Roman emperor Anthemius and the strong man of the empire, military leader Ricimer , deteriorate, the latter deposed Anthemius, proclaimed Olybrius the new emperor and besieged Rome , where Anthemius was staying. Anthemius is killed on July 11th while trying to flee the city. Ricimer himself dies a little later, however. Gundobad , son of the King of the Burgundians , Gundioch , and Ricimer's nephew , becomes the new supreme military leader and Patricius Westroms after Ricimer's death . The previous consul and new emperor Olybrius was proposed by Geiseric for the office of emperor in 467 . This time he actually only came to Rome to mediate in the disputes. Olybrius, who was not recognized by the Eastern Roman Emperor Leo I, only held his office as emperor for a few months, as he died at the end of the year, after which the imperial throne remained vacant for a few months.
