After his victory at Marathon, Miltiades the Younger leads an Attic campaign against the island of Paros , but it fails. Therefore, after his return to Athens, Miltiades is accused by Xanthippos and sentenced to death. However, the death penalty is converted into a large fine that he cannot pay. As a result, he was sent to prison, where he died of an injury sustained near Paros, whereby atimia , the loss of his civil rights , passed to his heirs. His son Kimon can only regain his civil rights by giving his half-sister Elpinike to the wealthy Athenian Callias as his wife, who pays the money debt.
