Ionic Uprising Map

The Ionian uprising of the Greek colonies of Asia Minor, which broke out a year ago under the leadership of Aristagoras of Miletus against the Achaemenid Empire of the Great King Darius I, is expanding: the city of Sardis , the seat of the local satrap , is taken by the rebels and the Persian temple there is destroyed , while the satrap Artaphernes holed up with his troops in the city castle and withstood the siege by the Greeks. According to Herodotus , Aristagoras tries to win Athens and Sparta for an invasion of Asia Minor by depicting the oppression of the Greek colonies by the Persian "tyranny" in glowing colors. The call for support in mainland Greece, however, largely goes unheard. Only the Athens and Eretria poleis send some ships. Nevertheless, the uprising spreads to the areas of Caria and Lycia , and even in Cyprus the Greeks rise against Persian rule. Also Miltiades , Athenian derived tyrant of the Thracian Chersonese , joins the uprising.

Roman Republic

According to legend, Titus Aebutius Helva and Veturius Geminus Cicurinus were consuls of the early Roman Republic . Aulus Postumius Albus Regillensis is installed as dictator because of the looming war with the Latins and makes Helva magister equitum .
