Roman Republic

According to legend, Aulus Sempronius Atratinus and Marcus Minucius Augurinus were consuls of the early Roman Republic . From this consulate , the Roman historians Titus Livius and Dionysius of Halicarnassus report the consecration of a temple of the god Saturnus at the Roman Forum and the related foundation of Saturnalia . (The information about the founding date of the temple ranges from 501 to 497 B.C.)

Persian Empire

The military superiority of the Persian Empire begins to take effect. Under the general Harpagos , the Ionian uprising in Asia Minor was pushed back further and further. The island of Cyprus , which has joined the insurgents, is brought back under Achaemenid control . The regional capital Sardis , conquered by the Ionians, is recaptured and the satrap Artaphernes , who has holed up in the castle with a small garrison, is freed. He then takes part in the Persian counter-offensive and conquers Klazomenai and Kyme , which forces Aristagoras , the initiator of the uprising, to flee from Miletus to Thrace . There he is killed in a minor battle, which robs the uprising of its leading figure.
