The ABU Radio Song Festival 2014 was the second edition of the annual ABU Radio Song Festival . The festival, which is not a competition, took place on May 23rd at Stein Studios in Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo. Originally the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theater was selected as the venue. A total of twelve contributions took part in the festival. First the organization of the festival was supposed to be carried out by the Australian ABC , but this did not materialize for unknown reasons.
venue
Colombo is de facto the capital of Sri Lanka (de jure is the capital and seat of government Sri Jayewardenepura-Kotte ). Colombo is located on the west coast of the island at the 7th parallel and 80th longitude. The favorable location on a peninsula and a protected natural harbor made the formerly small fishing village a sought-after trading port for the spice island. After independence in 1948, the city also became the island's political center.
The Stein Studios, which were selected as the venue on March 21st, contain three TV studios and are located approx. 30 minutes from Colombo city center near Ratmalana Airport . The Founders Block Studio can hold about 2000 spectators.
Broadcasting television station
As a member of ABU, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) hosted the 2nd ABU Radio Song Festival. In contrast to the Eurovision Song Contest , the Asian version takes the form of a TV and radio festival. The 2nd ABU Radio Song Festival coincided with the Radio Asia 2014 event , which took place from May 22nd to 24th, 2015.
Attendees
Twelve entries took part in the festival and were selected by the ABU, four of the 16 entries could not qualify. Sri Lanka as the host, which canceled shortly before the event in 2012, and Thailand participated for the first time, while Fiji, Kyrgyzstan, Vanuatu, Bhutan, Indonesia, Vietnam and Sudan withdrew from the competition.
In contrast to 2012, the first five contributions did not receive any awards, but instead all participants were awarded tokens of appreciation as a sign of recognition of the wide range of musical genres.
