The ABU TV Song Festival 2012 was the first edition of the annual ABU TV Song Festival . The festival, which is not a competition, took place in the KBS Hall in the South Korean capital Seoul and overlapped with the 49th General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). A total of eleven countries took part in the first festival. The theme of the show was "Beyond the Wave" ( dt. "Beyond the wave"), which stands for digital development in the public media.
The festival was not broadcast live, but the individual broadcasters broadcast the recordings between October and November 2012 in their programs.
Broadcasting television station
The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) was the broadcasting company for the first edition of the TV Song Festival, which took place in the KBS concert hall . The hosting broadcaster bore the costs for the stage design as well as the accommodation for the participants of the ABU TV Song Festival.

Eleven contributions were presented at the ABU TV Song Festival 2012. The state broadcaster of Mongolia , MNB (Mongolian National Broadcaster), initially selected Naran with her song Nudnii shil (Shades) for the festival, but withdrew the participation on September 14, 2012.

Each participating country was asked to broadcast the event during their program, along with overlaid comments and information about the festival in their local language. The festival was not broadcast live, but each broadcaster confirmed it was broadcast between October and November 2012 with a potential audience of 2 billion viewers, twenty times as many as the Eurovision Song Contest, which reached around 100 million viewers.
