Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is a consortium of various broadcasters in 57 countries and regions of the Asia-Pacific region , in which over 3 billion people live. The purpose of the ABU is to help the development of broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific regions and to promote the collective interests of its members. The catchment area of the ABU extends from Turkey in the west to Samoa in the east and from Russia in the north to New Zealand in the south. Founded in 1964, the organization is based in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia .
One of ABU's activities is Asiavision , a daily news exchange that is broadcast via satellite in 20 countries in Asia. In addition, the ABU also coordinates the transmission of large sporting events and carries out a wide range of other activities. It also wants to support the collective interests of the television and radio stations and promote regional and international cooperation between the stations.
Full members must be national free-to-air broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region . However, there is also an associated membership category that is open to provincial broadcasters, subscription broadcasters and national broadcasters in other parts of the world.

Full members are independent countries within the ABU broadcasting region. There are a maximum of two full members per country.
