AIMP is a free music player for Microsoft Windows and Android . It was originally written - initially exclusively for Windows - by the Russian software developer Artjom Ismailow. In the meantime, a development team in which he is still involved has taken over the software development.

The program is characterized by a wide range of functions with low resource consumption as well as the ability to load media files of up to 250 MB in size directly into the main memory in order to guarantee interference-free playback even with intensive multitasking. In addition, unlike many comparable audio players, it offers the option of multiple playlists ; this means that several playlists can be loaded at the same time.

The name AIMP is an acronym for A rtem I zmaylov M edia P layer . This is derived from the name of the first developer ( Cyrillic Артём Измайлов , in the English transcription he used Artem Izmaylov ).

Functions

In addition to the necessary functions for playing different music formats and audio streams , AIMP also has functions for managing music archives, for example a tagging module and a converter for various audio formats. The Windows version offers somewhat more extensive functions than the version for Android, for example, the scope of functions can only be expanded with plugins under Windows and the appearance of the surface, similar to that of Winamp , can be changed using skins . AIMP is often referred to as an excellent alternative to Winamp.

The BASS library from XMPlay is used to process most audio formats . AIMP does not support video files and streams. (Note 1)
