The Panameña de Fútbol League is the top football league in Panama . It was founded in 1988. The first season began on February 26, 1988 with six teams. There are now ten clubs playing in the league.

Until 2009, the league was also known under the name Asociación Nacional Pro Fútbol or the short form ANAPROF .

mode

The season is divided into two separate seasons, Apertura and Clausura . Each team plays against each other twice per season. In total, each team plays 18 games. The four best clubs then meet in the semi-finals and finals to play off the champions of the current season.

The team that has scored the fewest points in the Apertura and Clausura is relegated to the Liga Nacional de Ascenso , the country's second division. The winners of both seasons played in the Copa Interclubes UNCAF until they were dissolved in 2007 . Since then, these two teams have participated in the CONCACAF Champions League .
