Ahmed Aboul Gheit ( Arabic أحمد أبو الغيط, DMG Aḥmad Abū l-Ġaiṭ ; also: Abu al-Ghayt or Abu El Gheyt ) (born June 12, 1942 in Heliopolis , Cairo ) is an Egyptian diplomat and politician . In March 2016 he was elected Secretary General of the Arab League .

biography

After joining the Diplomatic Service , he began his career as Third Secretary of the Embassy in Cyprus . He then became First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York and, in 1984, Political Advisor to the Embassy in the Soviet Union .
