About a Boy is an American sitcom that premiered on February 22, 2014 on NBC . In addition to the film About a Boy or: The Day of the Dead Duck , the series is the second adaptation of the book of the same name by Nick Hornby . The series takes place in the same series universe as the series Parenthood , since Dax Shepard as Crosby Braverman in the tenth episode of the second Season of About a Boy has an appearance.
In May 2015, NBC discontinued production of the series.
action
The focus of the series is the songwriter Will Freeman, who leads a carefree life. That changes, however, when single mother Fiona moves in next door with her eleven-year-old son Marcus. Over time, Will and Marcus become friends. However, Will is concerned that a child is now his best friend. But he discovers that women are attracted to single men. To use this to his advantage, Will and Marcus make a deal: Marcus pretends to be Will's son and in return Will allows him to play at his house.

In February 2013, David Walton was hired for the first central leading role in the series. A few days later the engagement of Minnie Driver followed and around a month later that of Benjamin Stockham , who at the time was still in the series 1600 Penn , for the remaining two central roles. NBC officially ordered the series on May 9, 2013 . In January 2014 it was announced that the series would start on February 21, 2014 following coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics . A short time later, the development of a crossover with the Parenthood series was announced. In May 2014, NBC announced the extension for a second season. In January 2015, the length of this season was reduced from 22 to 20 episodes. In early May, the series was canceled after this.
