Abraham Chebii ( Abraham Kosgei Chebii ; born December 23, 1979 in Kaptabuk near Kapsowar , Marakwet District , Rift Valley Province ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

After graduating from Marakwet High School , he got a place at Kenyatta University , but could not afford the tuition fees and therefore turned to running. After some success in local cross-country races , he was discovered by Moses Kiptanui , who arranged for him a contract with Dieter Hogen's KIMbia group .

At the Cross Country World Championships in 2000 he achieved his first major international success when he was fifth on the short distance. In 2003 he won the Kenyan elimination fight over 5000 m for the World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis , but was plagued by a calf injury later in the season and came in fifth at the World Championships.

In the next season he won the national elimination match for the Cross Country World Championships, but only came in 19th place due to knee complaints and won bronze with the Kenyan team. After the knee healed, he qualified over 5000m for the Olympic Games in Athens . Shortly before, however, the calf injury broke out again, so that although he survived the preliminary run, he did not reach the finish in the final.

In 2005 he won silver in both the individual and team competitions at the World Cross Country Championships. In 2007 and 2008 he won the Great Ireland Run . In 2009 he won the Würzburg Residence Run and came second in the Parelloop .

Abraham Chebii has been married since 2002 and has two children (as of 2005); he lives in Eldoret .
