Adalbert of Saxony (* May 8, 1467 in Meißen , † May 1, 1484 in Aschaffenburg ) was called Adalbert III. Administrator of the Archdiocese of Mainz .

Adalbert was the son of Ernst of Saxony . In order to guarantee the protection of the Thuringian territories of the Mainz archbishopric around Erfurt and in Eichsfeld and to ally himself with Ernst von Sachsen, the Mainz archbishop Diether von Isenburg and the Mainz cathedral chapter made Adalbert, who was still underage, provisional for the city of Erfurt and senior magistrate in 1477 the Rusteberg near Rustenfelde in Eichsfeld and in 1479 a member of the Mainz Cathedral Foundation and administrator of the Halberstadt diocese . As early as 1480, the Mainz cathedral chapter elected Adalbert as coadjutor with the right to succeed him to the bishopric. Despite initial reservations, the election was confirmed by Pope Sixtus IV in 1481 . After Diether's death, Adalbert took office on May 8, 1482. However, Adalbert had not yet reached the age for episcopal ordination and initially remained an administrator; since Adalbert died in 1484 before his episcopal ordination, he was formally not Archbishop of Mainz. Accordingly, he is depicted on his tomb in Mainz Cathedral without a miter and pallium .

Adalbert obtained from Erfurt in 1483 the recognition of the hereditary glory of the bishopric over the city. During Adalbert's reign, the Martinsburg , the archbishop's castle, was completed in Mainz .
