Adele Haas

Adele Haas (born February 20, 1939 in Merzig ad Saar as Waltrud Basenach ) is an Austrian opera singer and vocal teacher .

Life

After graduating from high school, Adele Haas first studied German in Saarbrücken and Vienna . Her musicality was encouraged by singing and playing the piano at home and at school; Visits to the opera and the theater in the music metropolis of Vienna prompted her to switch to the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

After completing her studies in opera, lied and oratorio with Erik Werba , her career began, which led to the Vienna Volksoper from the 1973/74 season via the Vienna Chamber Opera and the Salzburg State Theater . Her discoverer was Karl Dönch , who spontaneously engaged her as Christl in the operetta The Bird Trader during a short break during the break. She remained loyal to the Vienna Volksoper for 24 years with numerous roles, including appearances in the Vienna State Opera and many international guest appearances . As Mrs. Pearce in the musical My Fair Lady , she said goodbye to the Vienna Volksoper in 1997 alongside Michael Heltau and Julia Stemberger .

As Berta / Marcellina in The Barber of Seville , Fekluscha in Katja Kabanowa and as Marianne Leitmetzerin in Der Rosenkavalier , she appeared at the Vienna State Opera from 1991 to 1994. At the opera festival operklosterneuburg in 1998 she also sang Berta in Gioacchino Rossini's Barbier von Sevilla .

In the operatic field she developed in the opera Die Zauberflöte from Papagena to Pamina and later First Lady, in Le nozze di Figaro she soon switched from Barbarina to Susanna. She sang the maiden Anna Reich in The Merry Wives of Windsor , Marie in Zar and Zimmermann , both in several productions, and Gretel was also an often played role. She also sang Gretchen in Albert Lortzing's comic opera Der Wildschütz . In Benjamin Britten's opera Albert Herring , she took on the role of Mrs. Wordsworth. Later in her career, she sang Nella in Gianni Schicchi and Ludmila in The Bartered Bride at the Vienna Volksoper .

Adele Haas sang at the Bregenz Festival from 1974 to 1981 , e.g. B. 1974 in Carmen . In the 1987/1988 season she sang all women's roles (Olympia, Antonia and Giulietta) in one evening at the Stadttheater St. Pölten during Herwig Lenau's directorship in Hoffmann's stories .

Haas also appeared in the operetta: Adele and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus , Briefchristl und Kurfürstin in The Bird Trader , Franziska Cagliari in Viennese blood in several productions with Fred Liewehr , Karl Dönch , Wilma Lipp , Otto Edelmann , Baroness Gondremarck with Peter Minich . She was Josepha Vogelhuber at the Weißen Rössl and played with Freddy Quinn for two summers in the musical comedy Feuerwerk . As a Merry Widow , she went on successful tours. In total, Adele Haas embodied over 80 roles in opera and operetta.

Song and oratorio from the baroque to romanticism to modern times were also important to her. With piano accompanists like Erik Werba and Norman Shetler she has made guest appearances at home and abroad. She also sang world premieres and premieres of compositions by Erik Werba. With the Collegium Musicum Basel Adele Haas sang Joseph Haydn's The Creation and The Seasons .

Adele Haas was a guest on TV shows in Austria and Germany .

Adele Haas lives in Klosterneuburg near Vienna, is married and has two children.
