The Adelmannschloss in the Berg district of Landshut in Lower Bavaria is a former Hofmarkschloss , which over the years was owned by various noble families, most recently the Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden eponymous .

history

Even before today's castle was built, there was a small castle in Berg ob Landshut, which, according to the Jesuit building files, was owned by Adam Karl Khempinski, judge of Dorfen , in 1564 . At that time, numerous servants of Trausnitz Castle lived there . In addition, all residents of Hofmark Berg were responsible for guarding the castle at night. In 1682 the Hofmark Berg was transferred to Johann Baptist Freiherrn von Leyden, who built the castle that still exists today. After the death of his son Joseph Maria Freiherr von Leyden in 1733, ownership passed to Bernhard Lorenz von Chlingensperg . His heir was the nephew Josef Maria von Chlingensperg, who died in 1811. His son Joseph von Chlingensperg was the last owner of Hofmark Berg. He died in 1837, leaving behind his daughter Sophie, who married Count Klemens von Adelmann on Adelmannsfeld that same year. He died in 1886, the widow lived in the castle until her death in 1911, which was then orphaned because the son Gustav Graf von Adelmann hardly took care of the property.

In 1935 it was acquired by the city of Landshut, which wanted to set up an auxiliary hospital in it. For this purpose, extensive renovation measures were necessary for the partly dilapidated substance. The original room layout was also given up. In 1940 the auxiliary hospital was opened, which was supposed to relieve the municipal hospital in Ländgasse. The clinic existed until the establishment of the new municipal hospital on Robert-Koch-Strasse in 1965. After that, it was owned by the German Armed Forces for a few years before the city of Landshut set up an art museum in 1975. Between 2006 and 2008 the castle was sold to a private investor. Comprehensive renovation measures were completed in 2011, during which the original room layout and valuable parts of the baroque furnishings were restored in close cooperation with the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .

description

The castle is a stately three-storey hipped roof building with two turret-like chimneys . The baroque building has seven window axes on the long side and five on the short side. The castle garden is surrounded by a brick wall. On a copper engraving by Michael Wening from the early 18th century, the castle and the enclosure can already be seen in their current form.
