history

In 1832, the rich brewery owner Johann Baptist Zöttl (1771–1839) had the castle built for himself. The master builder was Johann Baptist Bernlochner (1799–1869), who from 1830 built several buildings in Landshut.

In the years that followed, the castle was a popular excursion destination for the upper class of Landshut. In the summer of 1849, King Maximilian II of Bavaria and his wife Marie of Prussia visited the property on a tour.

The name of the castle comes from the Dräxlmaier family, who owned the Dräxlmaier brewery and lived in the building. The brewery was founded in 1838 as "Joh. Kastl Steam Brewery" and existed until 1865. After that, it was transferred to the Carl Wittmann brewery , which is still based in Landshut today.

The property was acquired at the beginning of the 20th century by the Fahrmbacher family, who were manufacturers and merchants in Landshut for several generations. The Commerce Hermann Fahrmbacher (1870-1966) had the building converted into a three-family house and for the first time to install a water pipe, electricity and a sewer connection. After completion, Fahrmbacher and his family moved in in August 1914. Since then, the small castle has also been called the Fahrmbacher Villa by the population .

In 1949 the adjacent Dräxlmaierweg was named after the castle.

description

The Dräxlmaierschlösschen is a late classicist hipped roof building with two floors and a risalit in the middle of the facade. On the first floor there is a painted hall with a balcony attached. A rectangular viewing pavilion is attached to the castle, which was surrounded by Tuscan columns. But these are dismantled and stored. At the rear of the villa was a small dairy farm that was occupied by the property manager and his family.

A beer cellar about 27 meters deep has been dug into the mountain , from which barrels could be pulled up with rollers.

In the castle park many rare shrubs and trees are planted. It is designed as a French baroque garden as well as in an English garden style.
