history

Neudeck Castle, like the neighboring castles Schaumburg and Wolfstein , was owned by the noble family of the Schaumburgs ( de Scovenburg ), who came from the line of the nobles of Julbach-Schaunberg and from which the Counts of Schaunberg are derived. The lords of Schaumburg were related to the Roninger family, had connections to Wolnzach and also called themselves "von Winklsass".

Neudeck probably belonged to neighboring Strasbourg . The castles Wolfstein and Schaumburg came with the inheritance of the Schaumburg around 1170 to the Wittelsbacher . Neudeck had already been abandoned around 1200 and was destroyed together with Strasbourg in 1203. The property was still owned by Hohold von Schaumburg-Neudeck-Winklsass in 1251. With Hohold's death in 1260, the Schaumburgs died out. The goods and county rights of Neudeck went to the Wittelsbach dukes. According to a document that was issued between 1266 and 1277, Hohold's widow Agnes handed over her own people to the Seligenthal monastery , including the provost Heinrich von Geisenhausen .

The takeover of the Schaumburg possessions and the destruction of the neighboring episcopal Strasbourg meant an important development for the Bavarian dukes and the city of Landshut. The Wittelsbachers were thus able to expand their territory and, above all, relocate the old trade crossing of the Isar to the Landshut control area.
