Adolf Baginsky
Adolf Aron Baginsky (born May 22, 1843 in Ratibor ( province of Silesia ), † May 15, 1918 in Charlottenburg near Berlin ) was a German pediatrician.
Life
The son of the businessman Abraham Baginsky and his wife Amalie, née Lustig, studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Berlin and at the Alma Mater Rudolphina Vindobonensis in Vienna , from 1861 to 1866 with Rudolf Virchow , after obtaining the high school diploma in his hometown and Ludwig Traube , whose private assistant he was. On May 7, 1866 he received his doctorate in Berlin .
He practiced first as a resident doctor in Seehausen near Magdeburg , then in Nordhausen and from 1871 in Berlin. Already at that time his medical interest lay mainly in the field of paediatrics. He introduced the regular medical screening of children in schools, advocated a heat-free in schools and initiated the Reich vaccination law . In 1877 he founded the Centralzeitung für Kinderheilkunde , and in 1879 the Archive for Paediatrics . He was committed to the production of impeccable baby food and the establishment of day nurseries, children's asylums and children's playgrounds. In this context, he unsuccessfully applied to the city administration in 1881 to set up a forest school on the outskirts of Berlin. This should enable children in need of relaxation to continue to attend school without any significant loss. In 1881 he completed his habilitation as a private lecturer for childhood diseases at the Medical Faculty of Berlin University and in 1890 became director of the Kaiser and Kaiserin Friedrich Children's Hospital in Berlin, which he founded together with Rudolf Virchow and which he worked in for 28 years to a few months before his death In 1918.
From 1888 Baginsky was a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
He found his final resting place in the Weissensee Jewish cemetery in the WT field.
