Adore Delano (born September 29, 1989 in Azusa as Daniel Anthony Noriega ) is an American drag queen and singer-songwriter in. Delano was best known (under her real name without drag) as a candidate of the seventh season of American Idol and a finalist of the sixth season of RuPaul's Drag Race . In June 2019, Delano ranked sixth on New York's list of the twenty most influential drag queens in the United States.

Life

Noriega was born in Azusa, California , where he grew up. He is Mexican , German and indigenous origin and made after visiting the local Center Middle School graduated from the Sierra High School . Noriega also wanted to go to college , but gave up and instead focused on his career.

Noriega came out to his family as homosexual at the age of twelve and has been open about his sexual orientation since the beginning of his career. In 2017, Noriega stated that she did not identify as male or female, but rather non-binary . However, Noriega does not claim to be designated in a gender-neutral way with the singular pronoun they (untranslatable in German), as is customary for non-binary people in English-speaking countries, but according to its own statement uses both male and female gender pronouns, but has no preference. As Adore Delano, Noriega uses feminine pronouns.

Career

In 2008, Noriega was a contestant for the seventh season of American Idol . In addition to his talent for singing, he was particularly noticeable because of his extravagant behavior and cheeky remarks to the jury. After Simon Cowell criticized Noriega after an appearance and the presenter Ryan Seacrest approached the candidate, Noriega responded with the sentence to Cowell some people weren't liking it , the clip of this conversation turned into a viral video . Noriega eventually eliminated in the semi-finals, but due to his popularity, was invited by Rosie O'Donnell to sing on the R Family Vacations cruise she hosted for LGBT families. Shortly thereafter, Noriega was also a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show , he was interviewed by her and then performed the song Superstar , which he had already set to American Idol .

After his time at American Idol , Noriega started his own YouTube channel, on which he performed skits as Adore Delano and Angel Baby, another drag figure. In June 2009, Noriega published the music video for the song 24/7 on his channel , which he produced together with his sister Diamonique.

Delano was inspired by an appearance by drag queen Raven at Micky's nightclub in West Hollywood to take part in a drag competition at the same venue, which she won. After her victory, Delano appeared regularly in drag shows in Southern California. In 2013, Delano walked the Marco Marco Runway , a catwalk for drag queens, with colleagues at Los Angeles Fashion Week. In December of that year, Delano was announced as one of 14 participants in the sixth season of RuPaul's Drag Race .

During the show, Delano won three of the eleven challenges named, a rap battle , the shooting of an infomercial for cosmetics sold by RuPaul and the design of clothes for a dance ball. Delano also had to play in the ninth and tenth episodes as one of the two weakest against another candidate in lipsync singing, but was able to prevent an early elimination through her victories. Delano finally moved into the finals on May 19, 2014 and was runner-up behind Bianca Del Rio along with Courtney Act .

On June 17, 2016 Delano was a participant in the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars announced in the Drag Race - offshoot face off only former candidate of the main transfer. After Delano was among the last three in the first episode on August 25, 2016, she left voluntarily in the following episode for personal reasons.

On April 4, 2017, Delano filed a lawsuit against its former management firm, Producer Entertainment Group , alleging that it paid Delano only 300,000 out of $ 2.5 million in revenue over the past three years. In turn, the company sued Delano in 2018 for owing it $ 180,000 in management fees.

On February 28, 2019, Delano appeared as a guest in the first episode of the eleventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race , in which the candidates had to pose for a photo shoot with former participants on the occasion of the first mini challenge . In August of the same year, Delano was featured on the cover of the Gay Times .

From December 2019 to February 2020, Delano was a candidate in the MTV reality show Ex on the Beach , in which ten single people, who became known through their participation in other reality formats , live with ex-partners in Queenstown for a few days . Delano met two former life companions and was named on the show not only by their drag name, but also by their real name.

One day after the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race , Delano released the song DTF , which was also the first single from their album Till Death Do Us Party , which came out on June 3rd. It reached third place on dance / electronic albums, eleventh place on independent albums and 59th place on Billboard 200 . The song I Adore U was placed 49th in dance / electronic songs and 34th in digital sales on the same hit list.

Delano's second album After Party was released on March 11, 2016, the lead single Dynamite on February 26, two further singles with the titles Take Me There and ICU on March 11 and September 1 of the same year. After Party was placed at number 192 on the Billboard 200, number one for dance / electronic albums and number 13 for independent albums.

Delano's third album Whatever was released on August 18, 2017, switching from the genre of pop to alternative rock , grunge and punk rock .
