Adrian "Adi" Bosshard (born March 19, 1962 in Zurich ) is a Swiss motorcycle racer and entrepreneur .

Life

Adrian Bosshard grew up in Nidau and Port near Biel . He rode motocross from the age of 16, completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic after four years and studied marketing and business administration at the Institute for Management Training in Bern .

Athletic career

1980 Bosshard started after a license elimination in 1979 in the junior 500 cm³ class in motocross and rose in the next few years up to the highest Swiss motocross category Inter 500. He then became Swiss runner-up three times. In 1988 and 1989 he became Swiss Motocross Champion. He then switched to the streets , initiated by his friend Hans Mühlebach , who was the largest Honda dealer in Switzerland at the time, and in 1990 became a wild card holder on a Honda RC30 Swiss road champion . From 1992 to 1994 (1994 together with Ralf Waldmann ) he competed at Honda with a factory machine, which Hans Mühlebach contributed, world championship races in the 250 cm³ class with the best result of 10th place at the Grand Prix of Europe in Barcelona in 1994. For two years he switched to the 500 cc class of the world championship and was also able to achieve a 10th place as the best result in 1995 at the British Grand Prix in Donington Park .

This makes him the first driver in motorsport history to win championship points in both motocross and motorcycle road races.

Adrian Bosshard already had contact with watch companies during his racing career and met Marc Hayek at the Automotodrom Brno in Brno , with whom he also trained. He was supported by Longines in 1994 and sponsored by Certina in 1995/1996 in the 500 cc class as part of the Elf 500 team . He was the last Swiss regular driver in this class until 2018 after 22 years at the start of the season in Qatar, the Swiss Tom Lüthi , whose first sponsor was Bosshard from 2001 to 2008.

Economic career

In 1996 he ended his racing career and worked as a salesperson / sales representative at Certina, of which he became president in 2003.

In addition, at the end of 2006 he took over the management of what was then the Union Glashütte project with the task of building up the brand and two years later became President of the Union Glashütte SA brand. He is also president of two well-known watch manufacturers. He also coordinates the Swatch Group's business in Eastern Europe (as well as Uzbekistan , Kazakhstan and Mongolia ).

Sporting commitment

As CEO and Managing Director of Certina he was from 2005 mainly responsible for 10 years to support the Formula 1 - BMW Sauber teams.

As President and Managing Director of Union Glashütte, from 2014 onwards he intensified the collaboration with the Reiter Engineering Team and the developed SaReNi Camaro GT3 in the ADAC GT Masters . Union Glashütte was also a partner at the Sachsen Classic.

In addition, he promotes the youngsters in motocross.

Private

Adrian Bosshard is married, has three children and lives in Biel.
