Adrian Winter (born July 8, 1986 in Thalwil ) is a Swiss football player .

Career

Adrian Winter was a talented swimmer as a teenager before embarking on a career in football. He joined the D-Jugend of the local football club in Thalwil , where he is still based today. After six years at FC Thalwil , Winter switched to the B youth team at FC Red Star Zurich . It was there that Uli Forte , who would subsequently become his greatest mentor, first became aware of the then 16-year-old.

Forte immediately took the young footballer on to the Red Star first team, where he was able to play as a regular for two years. After changing Fortes to FC Wil in the Challenge League - the second highest league in Swiss professional football - Winter followed him after an apprenticeship as an electrician had been completed, also in the Eastern Switzerland . During his year in Wil, the now 22-year-old continued to make positive headlines and earned his quick nomination in the right midfield.

For the 2008/09 season, Adrian Winter and sponsor Forte joined FC St. Gallen, who had just been relegated from the Super League . At his new place of work, the newcomer from cantonal rival Wil also secured a permanent place in the starting line-up and was one of the best in his team in the first half of the season. After a long series of injuries in 2009, Winter 2010 found its way back to its old strength and belonged again to the undisputed tribe of the team. In the first round of the 2010/11 season he played 17 of 18 possible missions in the preliminary round.

Winter when receiving the ball

In January 2011 Adrian Winter announced his upcoming move to FC Luzern at the end of the season. With the league rivals from central Switzerland he signed a contract for three years and on significantly better terms. He was able to fit into the team quickly and quickly became an indispensable regular player. Winter always created danger on the outside and showed great assertiveness in the duels. These characteristics made him one of the public favorites among the fans of FC Luzern. His achievements were ultimately rewarded with the squad of the senior national team. His contract was not extended to the 2014/15 season.

In the summer of 2015, Winter moved to Major League Soccer at Orlando City . There he played nine games in his first season and scored two goals. Also in the 2016 season, the Swiss is part of the Orlando City squad. In the first game of the season in 2016, Winter scored a 2-2 equalizer against Red Salt Lake in stoppage time.

In the summer of 2016, he returned to Switzerland for FC Zurich , where he met his former coach Uli Forte . With Uli Forte, Adrian Winter was relegated to the Challenge League in the 2015/16 season . Only a year later, FC Zurich and Adrian Winter achieved immediate promotion back to the Super League . In the 2017/18 season, Adrian Winter celebrated the cup victory with FC Zurich, with FC Zurich winning 2-1 in Bern against BSC Young Boys .

Headlines

Winter had to answer to the club's management after igniting pyrotechnic material together with Kryeziu at the cup celebration at the end of May 2018 . The consequences are still unclear; it is assumed that the two FCZ players were asked to pay.

National team

On May 30, 2012 Adrian Winter made his international debut in the Swiss senior team . In the friendly against Romania (0: 1) he came on for Admir Mehmedi in the 64th minute .
