Kevin Rüegg (born August 5, 1998 in Uster ) is a Swiss - Cameroonian football player .

Kevin Rüegg, whose mother is Cameroonian and his father is Swiss, first tried handball at the age of six. During his first training session, however, he was sent home straight away because he could not tie his sneakers himself. His father then took him to training at FC Greifensee, where he was able to pursue his real passion, playing football. At the age of 10, Rüegg played with the D-Juniors against the Grasshopper Club Zurich . He was discovered by the scouts of FC Zurich as one of the best on the field and gave him the chance for a trial training session. Rüegg then moved to the U-11 of FC Zurich in 2008, where he was immediately given a regular seat.

In the youth department, he went through all levels, experienced ups and downs, and was soon assigned to the Swiss national youth team. At the age of 15 he moved to live with a host family in Lucerne to attend the SFV training center in Emmen , an institution of the Swiss Football Association . At the same time he attended secondary school and trained football every day. He soon made it into the U-21s of FC Zurich and made his debut against SC Brühl St. Gallen on October 12, 2014 . In the 2016/17 season he became an integral part of the second team and made 16 appearances in the Promotion League .

FC Zurich

In February 2017, Rüegg was appointed to the extended squad of the first team, but was not used during the first two squads. In his third squad on February 26, 2017, in the away game against FC Wohlen (22nd matchday), he finally made his debut. In the 4-1 victory, Rüegg played through in defensive midfield for 90 minutes. By the end of the season he had a total of 9 appearances in the Challenge League and rose with his team back into the Super League .

On June 2, 2017, Rüegg signed his first professional contract with FC Zurich, which is valid until summer 2020.

National team

Kevin Rüegg went through various levels of the Swiss junior national team. He is currently a national player for the Swiss U-21 national team . He made his debut on September 5, 2017 in the qualifier for the U-21 European Football Championship 2019 against the Romanian junior team .
