Alba Caterina Rohrwacher (born February 27, 1979 in Florence ) is an Italian actress .

Life

Alba Rohrwacher was born in Florence as the daughter of a German and an Italian. Her sister is the director Alice Rohrwacher . She studied acting at the Italian film school Scuola Nazionale di Cinema in Rome . She received her first film role in 2004 in L'amore ritrovato by Carlo Mazzacurati . In 2007 she played Alice in Days and Clouds by Silvio Soldini and was awarded the David di Donatello for best supporting actress in 2009. In the same year she received this award for the role of Giovanna in Pupi Avatis Giovanna's father in the category Best Actress. During the Berlinale 2009 she was presented as one of the European Shooting Stars . In 2009 she played alongside Tilda Swinton in Io sono l'amore by Luca Guadagnino . The world premiere of Silvio Soldini's Cosa voglio di più , in which she plays the main character Anna, was shown at the 2010 Berlinale . The German director Doris Dörrie selected Rohrwacher for the leading role in her drama Glück .

In 2011 Rohrwacher was appointed to the competition jury of the 68th Venice International Film Festival and was part of the jury of the 66th Berlin International Film Festival in 2016 . In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
