Albert Hilbe

Albert Jakob Hilbe (born May 17, 1822 in Oberdorf , Dornbirn , † November 30, 1898 in Brescia ) was an Austrian hydraulic engineer and gas contractor .

Life

Hilbe was born as the son of the master builder Josef Andrä Hilbe vulgo "Sigmunds" (1779-1839) and Maria Franziska Thurnher (1793-1852) in Kirchgasse 3 in Oberdorf. His father is considered to be the builder of Arlbergstrasse .

Albert Hilbe studied in Vienna and became a hydraulic engineer. He started out in the civil service in Vienna , then was an engineering assistant in the Bozen construction district and worked as a senior and district engineer between 1850 and 1854 on various projects in South Tyrol , such as B. on the Adige regulation in Kaltern , Margreid and Salurn . The renovation of the roof after a fire of the now listed parish church of St. Andreas in Salurn was his work. In 1862 he is proven as an engineer assistant 2nd class at the kk regional building directorate in Innsbruck .

Finally he moved from civil service to the Augsburg company Ludwig August Riedinger , which built the gas center in Brescia in 1859 to generate gas light .

In 1867 he became director of the local gas works in Brescia as "Alberto Hilbe". When he retired in 1883 and was still doing a teaching job, his son Julius (1854–1894), known in Brescia as Giulio Hilbe , took over his duties in Brescia.

Hilbe died in 1898 at the age of 76.

The southwest corner of the Zanzenberg bears the name "Albertshöhe" after him.
