Albini Castle
The Albinischloss is a modern castle in Dieburg ( Albinistraße 23 ) in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in Hesse . It is located on the southern remains of the medieval Dieburg castle complex .
history
In 1802 the Hessian Landgrave Ludwig X gave the former Hohenstaufen and, up to then Electoral Mainz, large, four-cornered moated castle, Burg Dieburg, to Baron Franz Joseph von Albini for his many services . In 1809, Albini had almost all of the castle's buildings and wall remnants laid down and built a classicist residential palace to the south in the area of the former winery as a mansion with the corresponding farm buildings , which he and his family lived in until his death in 1816. In 1857 the castle came into the possession of the city of Dieburg. The castle building has been modernized and renovated in recent times. Only the eastern part of the building and the staircase leading to the inner courtyard give an idea of the old structures. There are several gables on the south side . The castle is now a residential complex and houses a restaurant . A large pigeon house now stands south of the former moat of the old Electoral Mainz castle .
The two-story, elongated castle building is flanked on both sides by larger, rectangular corner buildings.
