The province of Alborz ( Persian استان البرز, DMG Ostān-e Alborz ) is one of the 31 provinces of Iran . The capital of the province is Karaj . It was created on June 23, 2010 by splitting off the northwestern part of Tehran Province . According to the 2016 census, the province had a population of 2,712,400.

In addition to the fifth largest city in Iran, Karaj, the towns of Haschtgerd , Taleghan and Nazarabad are also located in the Alborz province. Alborz divided into Schahrestans Eschtehard , Fardis , Karaj , Nazarabad , Sawodschbolagh and Taleghan .
