Albrecht Dietrich Gottfried von und zum Egloffstein (* May 6, 1720 in Lamgarben , † May 1791 in Arklitten ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general and chief of an infantry regiment named after him . He was also governor of the fortresses of Königsberg , Memel and Pillau , knight of the Pour le Mérite and the Order of St. John .

Albrecht Dietrich Gottfried Graf von und zu Egloffstein came from an old imperial knighthood family who were wealthy in Franconia and registered with the Frankish imperial knighthood in the cantons of Steigerwald and Gebürg . Since 1514 she was resident with Hieronymus von und zu Egloffstein in East Prussia with a branch .

Life

In 1732 he came to the University of Königsberg in Prussia . When the new King Friedrich II paid his respects there after his accession to the throne in 1740, he gave the welcoming speech. The king brought him into his army and made him ensign in the Camas regiment on foot . In the following year, 1741, he came to the Schwerin Regiment on foot . There he became second lieutenant in the same year. During the First Silesian War in 1742, he was captured while making quarters and exchanged after ten days.

He fought in the Battle of Mollwitz and the Battle of Chotusitz . During the siege of Prague in 1757 he was adjutant general to Field Marshal von Schwerin . His left arm was shot in a battle. He recovered and was able to fight again in Rossbach . He was shot in the chest at the Battle of Kay . He survived this wound as well and fought in the battles near Liegnitz , von Torgau and Freiberg . In 1745 he became Premier Lieutenant. In March 1757 he was promoted to staff captain, in November 1759 he was promoted to captain. In 1761 he became a major in the Goltz on foot regiment, which was under the command of the king's brother, Prince Heinrich of Prussia . Prince Heinrich had fought very successfully with his army in the last year of the war against Saxons and Austrians. In recognition of his achievements, Frederick II sent his brother five orders of Pour le Mérite on May 27, 1762 , with the request that five officers of his choice be awarded the order of Pour le Mérite in the name of the king. In a reply from June 4, 1762, Prince Heinrich informed the king that he had awarded Major Egloffstein one of these medals. On October 1, 1764, Egöffstein was made a Knight of St. John.

After the war Albrecht von und zu Egloffstein initially continued to serve in the Prussian army. In 1771 he became a lieutenant colonel and in 1773 a colonel. Two years later he became the commander of the Pelkovsky regiment on foot . On May 20, 1782 he was appointed chief of the regiment and on May 21, 1782 major general. After the first partition of Poland in 1772 and the associated acquisition of West Prussia by Prussia, Friedrich II appointed Egloffstein Governor General of West and East Prussia. In November and December 1783 he led the blockade of Danzig . He then made a personal report to the king. He was very satisfied and from May 20, 1784 Egloffstein received an additional salary of 1000 thalers.

On account of his services to the Prussian monarchy, the new King Friedrich Wilhelm II raised the then major general and his brother Otto Friedrich (born September 25, 1733 - November 21, 1801) to the hereditary Prussian count status on October 19, 1786. In 1787 Egloffstein became lieutenant general and governor of Königsberg, Pillau and Memel. In June 1789 he asked for his departure, which was also granted. Towards the end of his life, Albrecht Dietrich Gottfried von und zu Egloffstein withdrew to his East Prussian estates and founded the Majorat Arklitten there, whose first Majorate he himself became and which remained in the family's possession until 1945. He died in May 1791. A memorial in the forecourt of Kunreuth Palace commemorates the count.

He was married to Henriette Gottliebe von Bork (1731–1778), daughter of the chamber director Friedrich Albrecht von Borck , since February 11, 1748 . The marriage remained childless.
