Nerwiki Castle (2012)

Nerwiki ( German  Nerfken ) is a hamlet in Sołectwo Pieszkowo, which belongs to the Gmina Górowo Iławeckie ( Landsberg (East Prussia) ) in the Powiat Bartoszycki ( Bartenstein ). It is located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship on the Polish state border with the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast .

Geographical location

Nerwiki is located in the middle of the historical Stablack landscape , which belongs to the Baltic ridge . Lakes, rivers, as well as coniferous and mixed forests are characteristic of the area. The hamlet of Nerwiki is 11 kilometers from Lidzbark Warmiński , 12.5 kilometers from Górowo Iławeckie and 26 kilometers from Bartoszyce . The state border with Kaliningrad Oblast runs about 25 kilometers to the north . A distance of 37 kilometers leads to the Bezledy - Bagrationowsk border crossing via Górowo Iławeckie.

The landscape was shaped by the Fennoscan ice sheet and is a post-glacial, hilly, wooded ground moraine . It belongs to the Baltic ridge .

history

Originally this area was inhabited by pagan Prussians ( Natangen ). After Christianization by the Teutonic Order which was Diocese of Warmia a part of since 1243 German religious country . After 1240 the Balga Commandery was founded in this region . On July 3, 1339, Grand Master Dietrich von Altenburg awarded the hand festivals including 26 hooves to the Old Prussians Nerweike according to the agricultural constitution of the Teutonic Order State . In the 17th century, Albrecht von Ostau (1613–1678) and Georg Dietrich von der Groeben -Weeskeim were gentlemen on Nerfken. The manor had been in the possession of the von Heyden-Nerfken family since 1728 .

North of Nerfken was 7. – 9. February 1807 the battle of Preussisch Eylau was decided.

From 1818 to 1945 Nerfken belonged to the district of Preußisch Eylau in the administrative district of Königsberg and from 1874 to 1945 the manor district was the seat of the district and registry office . From May 1874 to May 1880 the landowner von Heyden was appointed head of office . On October 1, 1899, the Heilsberg - Lansberg railway line , which ran west of the town, went into operation. The Nerfken estate covered 394 hectares.

In the conquest of East Prussia , Nerfken was captured by the Red Army on February 1, 1945 and placed under the Soviet command. After the end of the war, the place came to Poland and was renamed Nerwiki . A Państwowe gospodarstwo rolne was created in Nerwiki .
