Spread and lines
Two of the three sons of the progenitor Georg von Ostau became the founders of the two lines of the family. Fabian von Ostau auf Kisitten and Kegels was the founder of the older line and Siegmund von Ostau auf Kleszowen the founder of the younger line. The third son Johann von Ostau auf Ilischken and Jacobsdorf died without offspring. The older line went out in the middle of the 18th century, while the younger line could get into the present day. Branches later also settled in the Jerichower district of the Duchy of Magdeburg .
From the older line came Albrecht von Ostau (1613–1678), a grandson of Fabian, Herr auf Nerfken , Kegels, Sedlienen and Schönfliess. He became a privy councilor and court judge . Ludwig von Ostau (1663–1737), Herr auf Lablacken , was secret budget minister, chancellor and feudal director. He married Maria Casimira Elenore Countess von Schlieben . In 1756 with the death of Albrecht Siegmund von Ostau (* 1712), captain in the "von Canitz" regiment, the older line in the male line became extinct .
