Heinrich von Ostau

Karl Heinrich Julius von Ostau (born March 1, 1790 in Königsberg , † July 11, 1872 in Dretzel ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Heinrich was a son of the district administrator of the Schacken district and regional director Julius von Ostau (1738–1808) and his second wife Karoline, born von Tiedemann (1767–1859). She was a daughter of Major General Karl Eduard von Tiedemann .

Military career

On September 1, 1805 Ostau resigned as Junker in the Dragoon Regiment "Auer" the Prussian army and advanced to the November 1, 1806 Ensign promoted. As such, he took part in the battles at Prussian Eylau , Heilsberg , Liebstadt, Soldau, Wusen and Königsberg during the Fourth Coalition War. Ostau rose to secondary lieutenant in mid-May 1807 .

During the Wars of Liberation , he fought near Großgörschen , where he received a commendation and on December 8, 1813, he became Premier Lieutenant . In the further course of the war, Ostau took part in the battles near Bautzen and the Katzbach , received the Iron Cross 2nd class for Leipzig and was at the crossing near Wartenburg . In the campaign of 1814 he received the Order of St. Vladimir IV from Laon, and Ostau received a silver medal for Paris . He was also in the battles of Königswartha, Waldau, Hochkirch, Reichenbach, Montmirail , Sezanne, Chateau-Thierry and Namur .

In June 1815 he fought in the Battle of Waterloo and was awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus III. Excellent and transferred to the Gardes du Corps regiment on September 8, 1815 . There Ostau was promoted to Rittmeister and company commander on April 7, 1816 . On April 8, 1831, he was promoted to major and in July 1832 was appointed staff officer . He was then commissioned on March 30, 1839, initially to lead the 4th Uhlan Regiment and on January 28, 1840, Ostau was appointed regimental commander. In the same capacity he was on 30 March 1840 in the 2nd Guard Lancers (Landwehr) Regiment transferred to Berlin and in this position on 12 September 1841 Lieutenant Colonel and on March 30, 1844 to Colonel promoted. Under awarding of the character as a major general Ostau took his on September 18, 1845 farewell with board . After his departure, King Wilhelm I awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on March 22nd, 1862 .

Ostau died on July 11, 1872 in Dretzel. He was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .

family

On August 20, 1821, he married Bertha von Bischoffwerder (1800–1823), the youngest daughter of Major General Hans Rudolf von Bischoffwerder, in Potsdam . A plaque for them can be found in the village church of Marquardt. The couple had two daughters:

After the death of his first wife, he married on August 20, 1826 in Dretzel Adelgunde von Stilke (1798–1869). She was mistress of Dretzel and Ringelsdorf and the daughter of Ludwig Hermann von Stilcke (1764-1835). The couple had several children:
