Karl Eduard von Tiedemann (born November 11, 1724 in Danzig ; † April 13, 1792 in Mewe ) was a Prussian major general , most recently chief of infantry regiment No. 55 and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

origin

The Tiedemann family was raised to the imperial nobility by Emperor Karl V on October 11, 1522 in the person of Lieutenant Colonel Georg Tiedemann . Karl Eduard's parents were the Polish captain Ferdinand von Tiedemann (* October 6, 1691; † September 9, 1749) and Florentina Concordia von Brandis (* December 21, 1693; † July 30, 1753).

Military career

Tiedemann entered Prussian service in 1741 and joined the "Flanß" infantry regiment as a private corporal . With the regiment he took part in the battle of Chotusitz during the First Silesian War the following year . During the Second Silesian War , Tiedemann was at the siege of Cosel . After the war he became ensign in January 1746 and second lieutenant in October 1750 .

This was followed by the 1757 promotions to first lieutenant , 1761 to staff captain and 1763 to captain . In 1772 he became Major 1782 Lieutenant Colonel and on May 22, 1784 , Colonel . In March 1790 he became chief of the Golz infantry regiment in Stettin . On August 11, 1790 he was appointed major general, and in October 1790 he was instead assigned to the "Koschembar" infantry regiment.

He fought in the battles near Groß Jägersdorf and Zorndorf , where he was wounded in the arm.

In 1759 he fought in the battles near Torgau , Korbitz (September 21, 1759), Pretsch (October 29, 1759) and Nossen . In the battle of Maxen he was taken prisoner in Austria. But in 1760 it was exchanged again. After that he fought in Silesia and Pomerania. He was able to distinguish himself especially in the battle in Leutmannsdorf and the siege of Schweidnitz . He received his Pour le Mérite in the following War of the Bavarian Succession , when he fought in the king's army in 1778 in the battle near Trautenbach .

After the death of his first wife, Tiedemann married Henriette Luise Charlotte von Calbow (November 1, 1742 - November 25, 1804), a daughter of Johann Christoph von Calbo (* 1698 - October 18, 1769) in Königsberg on November 1, 1776 in Wietstock) and Karoline Magdalena von Schwerin (1717–1780) (daughter of Kurt Christoph von Schwerin ). The couple had at least one son:
