Georg Ewald von Blumenthal (born April 20, 1722 in Quackenburg , † September 4, 1784 in Mewe ) was a Prussian major general , chief of infantry regiment No. 55 and knight of the Pour le Mérite and heir to Eysow and Kummerzin .

Georg Ewald came from the old Brandenburg noble family von Blumenthal . His parents were Heinrich Albrecht von Blumenthal (* May 27, 1693; † July 17, 1767), heir to Quackenburg in Pomerania and his wife Katharina Elisabeth von Lettow (* October 1, 1702; † May 14, 1743) from the Machmin family . One brother was the Prussian Minister Joachim Christian (1720–1800) and the Prussian Colonel Werner Heinrich (1725–1804).

Military career

Blumenthal was first employed in the infantry regiment "Billerbeck" No. 17 of the Prussian Army and in 1738 promoted to Fahnenjunker . There he rose to major . In May 1769 the king appointed him Frederick II. To lieutenant colonel . On June 8, 1772 he became a colonel . In 1780 he received the infantry regiment "Hessen-Philippsburg" No. 55 and on August 15, 1781 Blumenthal was appointed major general.

He died in September 1784 in Mewe, where his unit was stationed.

Blumenthal fought in the battles of Chotusitz , Hohenfriedberg , Thrush , Lobositz , Prague , Kolin , Hochkirch , Torgau and Freiberg . In addition at the battles of Kuttenberg, Görlitz, Holitz, Neustadt and Jauernick; as well as during the sieges of Ramklau, Brieg, Neisse and Prague. He was wounded in the Battle of Thrush and the Battle of Görlitz. After the battle of Prague he received the Pour le Mérite.

Blumenthal was married to Barbara Helene von Zitzewitz (* February 8, 1745 - March 22, 1810) from the Goschen family since February 7, 1766 . The couple had offspring including:
