Alex Howes (born January 1, 1988 in Golden , Colorado ) is an American cyclist .

Athletic career

Alex Howes was US runner-up in the junior cyclocross championship in 2005 .

In the 2007 season, Howes became a member of the Professional Continental Team Slipstream-Chipotle . In 2009 Howes became the national road racing champion in the U23 class. At the Tour of Utah, he won the fourth stage and was first in the mountain and in the junior class. In the overall standings, he took fourth place. At the end of the 2009 season Howes drove again for the Garmin-Slipstream team, which had meanwhile been promoted to the ProTour , but this time as a stagiaire .

In 2012 Howes got a contract with Garmin-Sharp and won the team time trial of the Tour of Utah with this team , in 2014 he won a stage of the USA Pro Challenge . In 2016 he became national runner-up in road racing. The following year was particularly successful for Howes: He won the mountain classification of the Vuelta al País Vasco , two stages of the Cascade Cycling Classic and one stage each of the Colorado Classic and the Tour of Alberta . In 2019 he became national road champion.
