Alexander Bernhard Henzen (born February 12, 1807 in Wassenberg ; † August 27, 1880 in Neuwied ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Alexander was a son of Peter Henzen and his wife Elisabeth, nee Lennarz. His father was a captain of the French National Guard and later mayor of Wassenberg. His brother Conrad Heinrich Josef Henzen (1801–1888) was a pastor in Elsen and a pomologist , after whom the variety “ Henzens Parmäne ” is named.

Military career

Henzen joined the 28th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a volunteer on March 17, 1826 and advanced to the position of redundant second lieutenant by mid-April 1829 . On February 27, 1831 he was transferred to the 35th Infantry Regiment (3rd Reserve Regiment) in Mainz . From 1837 to 1842, Henzen was adjutant of the 2nd battalion, rose in the meantime to prime lieutenant and was then appointed regimental adjutant. He was promoted to captain on September 19, 1848, and was appointed chief of the 1st company. On June 21, 1856 he was transferred to Soldin as a major and commander of the 2nd battalion in the 8th Landwehr Regiment . On May 8, 1860, Henzen was commissioned to lead the 2nd Battalion in the 8th Combined Infantry Regiment, from which the 5th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment 48 emerged on July 1, 1860 . On this date Henzen was appointed battalion commander and promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 18, 1861 . With a position à la suite , he was appointed director of the military shooting school on February 10, 1863. In this capacity he advanced to colonel in mid-March 1863 and was awarded the Red Eagle Order III in January 1865 on the occasion of the festival of the order . Excellent with a bow.

During the mobilization on the occasion of the German War , in 1866, Henzen became the commander of the Lower Silesian Landwehr Regiment No. 11, which secured the Neisse fortress as a garrison . After the peace treaty he was given the character of major general on September 11, 1866 and was put up for disposal with a pension . He received his departure on April 13, 1869 and a pension increase of 100 thalers a year. He died on August 27, 1880 in Neuwied.

Henzen married Karoline Friederike Bücking (1818–1891) on March 28, 1837 in Frankfurt am Main .
