Alexander "Alex" Kačaniklić (born August 13, 1991 in Helsingborg ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2012 , has been playing in Sweden for Hammarby IF in Allsvenskan since 2019 . Previously, he had only been active in the adult sector in England and France.

Career

Kačaniklić played in his youth at Helsingborgs IF and was one of the first selection players of his year in 2006 in the Swedish U-15 national school team alongside Robin Söder , Viktor Lundberg , Dejan Garača and his club mate Sebastian Carlsén . In the following years he was a regular among the Swedish selection players. In July 2007 he moved to the youth academy of the then English record champions FC Liverpool after he had convinced in two test matches in April - in the 6-0 win over the offspring of the Blackburn Rovers he prepared the first three goals. Two years later he reached the FA Youth Cup finals with the club's youth team alongside players such as Lauri Dalla Valle , Christopher Buchtmann , Daniel Sánchez Ayala and Jack Robinson , but the team overseen by Hughie McAuley drew against the FC youth Arsenal lost out with two defeats. In the 1: 4 defeat in the first leg, the Swede had scored the consolation goal for the Liverpool team with the 1: 2 subsequent goal .

In the summer of 2010 was Kacaniklic part of the change of Paul Konchesky from Fulham to Liverpool and went along with Lauri Dalla Valle to the "Cottagers". There he played mainly in the reserve team of the club and only occasionally sat on the bench with the professional team. At the end of January 2012, he finally moved on loan to Watford FC in the second-rate Football League Championship . There he was convincing and was ordered back early after twelve appearances with a goal on March 27 - the original loan agreement stipulated a deadline until the end of the season. Coach Martin Jol used him directly in the following league game against Norwich City , when he replaced the injured Pawel Viktorovich Pogrebnjak in the 35th minute of the game .

On March 1, 2013 Kačaniklić moved to the second division FC Burnley on loan until the end of the season . The following day he played his first game for the club when he was in the starting line-up in the 1-0 away win at Charlton Athletic with a goal from Charlie Austin .

After the relegation of FC Fulham to the Football League Championship , Kačaniklić extended his contract until June 30, 2016 and was loaned to FC Copenhagen until the end of the 2014/15 season. At the end of the year, the loan was terminated by contract option and Kačaniklić returned to Fulham.

In 2016 he switched to FC Nantes in Ligue 1 . There he was only used more often in his first season, after which he was only second choice for a long time. At the end of December 2018, the club and the players terminated the current contract "by mutual agreement". He returned to Sweden for a short time without a club and signed a contract with the Stockholm club Hammarby IF in February 2019 .

National team

In May 2012, Kačaniklić was for the first time in the Swedish U-21 selection for the qualifying games for the U-21 European Championship in Israel in 2013 , but had to cancel due to an injury. In July, the young player extended his contract with his club by two years, including an option for another season. On August 7th he was nominated again for the U-21 team by the selection coaches Håkan Ericson and Tommy Söderberg . Four days later, however, Erik Hamrén brought him into the squad of the senior national team for the injured Emir Bajrami , which was up against Brazil . In the 3-0 defeat in the last international match at Råsundastadion , he made his national team debut as a substitute. Kačaniklić scored his first goal for the national team on October 12, 2012, when he came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute in the World Cup qualifier in Tórshavn against the Faroe Islands and three minutes later marked the goal to make it 1-1. Sweden won the game 2-1 in the end. Four days later, Kacaniklic also played in the 4-4 draw in the World Cup qualifier against Germany . When the score was 3-0, Kačaniklić came on for Samuel Holmén at the beginning of the second half , and in the 76th minute, Johan Elmander set up a 3-4 goal .
