Alexander Mayer (born March 24, 1960 in Fürth ) is a German historian , publicist , photographer and musician . He was from 1984 to 1992 local politicians in the district of Fürth and from 1993 to 2007 Chairman of Fürth's Old Town Association and from 2004 to 2014 the city curator of Fuerth. Mayer publishes books on political science and history and has recorded a CD for solo guitar.

Life

Alexander Mayer is the son of Walter Mayer and his wife Adolfine "Fini" Mayer, née Horn. After graduating from high school at Hardenberg-Gymnasium and doing community service, Mayer studied at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . After intermediate occupation he was sent to a thesis on the theory of political integration in 1992 at Gotthard Jasper , Eugen Wirth and Günter Schödl in the courses Political Science , Geography and Modern History to Dr. phil. PhD.

In 1983 he was a founding member of the Greens in Zirndorf . From 1984 to 1991 he was a city councilor in Zirndorf and until 1990 also a district councilor in the Fürth district and exercised these mandates initially as a representative of the Greens and from 1989 as a non-party.

Professionally he was u. a. Temporarily active in the press office of the city of Fürth, in the city planning office of the city of Schwabach and as a freelancer for the Fürther Nachrichten . As a publicist, he has been publishing books since 1989, initially mainly of a political science, later of local history.

From 1993 to 2007 Mayer was chairman of the Fürth Old Town Association, and in 2004 he was elected city ​​home administrator. In exercising his office, he was mainly involved in the field of monument protection , u. a. he campaigned for the preservation of the historic locomotive shed in Fürth . Mayer was committed to the preservation of Fürth's Gustavstrasse as a traditional center of pub culture and initiated a memorial trail for the battle of the Alte Veste , for which he designed the corresponding memorial plaques.

From 2004 to 2006 Mayer built a wooden and mud house mostly in-house, which was reported in the local press and national journals and which was attended by architecture seminars.

In June 2007 in Bayreuth, Mayer discovered the carillon that is now on the Fürth town hall tower and initiated the acquisition. Together with church music director Hans Schmidt-Mannheim, he arranged bars 8 to 16 of the rock classic Stairway to Heaven for the carillon, which still resounds at noon from the town hall tower.

The resistance to partial aspects of an inner-city shopping center brought him into opposition to Lord Mayor Thomas Jung . The “legal relationships of the home nurses” were then changed in such a way that a new or deselection was possible in 2014, previously only a dismissal for an important reason would have been possible. In the subsequent selection process it came a. in the opinion of the CSU parliamentary group on breaches of the duty of confidentiality to the detriment of Mayer.

Mayer contributed significantly to the establishment of the Bavarian Monument Network and has worked for Wikipedia and FürthWiki for many years .

Alexander Mayer is the cousin of the epileptologist Thomas Mayer .
