Alexander Voelker (politician)

Alexander Voelker (born August 1, 1913 in Berlin-Neukölln ; † February 24, 2001 in Berlin ) was a Berlin SPD politician.

Life

Alexander Voelker joined the SPD in 1931 at the age of 17. After finishing school, he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk. After the Second World War he worked for Bewag .

In 1946 Voelker became district chairman of the SPD in Tempelhof . In the same year he was elected to the district assembly of the Tempelhof district.

As early as 1948 he was elected to the Berlin city council and in 1950 to the Berlin House of Representatives, to which he belonged continuously until 1979. From 1958 to 1973 Voelker was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the House of Representatives. He was also a member of the SPD party council from 1959 to 1962 .

Alexander Voelker died in February 2001 at the age of 87 in Berlin. The funeral took place in silence at the request of the deceased. His grave is in the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend (grave location: 8-B-42).

Honors

Voelker was awarded the Ernst Reuter plaque in 1973 and the title of City Elder of Berlin in 1980 .

The final resting place of Alexander Voelker in the Heerstraße cemetery is dedicated to the State of Berlin as an honorary grave .
