Alexander Wassiljewitsch Kolobnew (also Alexandr Kolobnev , Russian Александр Васильевич Колобнев ; born May 4, 1981 in Wyksa ) is a former Russian cyclist .
career
Alexander Kolobnew began his international career in 2002 with the Italian cycling team Acqua e Sapone .
The two runner-up world championships at the road cycling world championships in 2007 and 2009 and winning the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in 2008 are among the greatest successes of the specialist in difficult one-day races . He was also able to secure the title of Russian road champion in 2004 and 2010.
In 2010 Kolobnew was the classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège second behind Alexander Vinokurow , with whom he ran away together. As a result, the accusation was made that Vinokurov had bought the victory from Kolobnev for € 150,000. Exchange emails and transfers should serve as evidence. The prosecution brought charges, demanding six months' imprisonment and heavy fines; However, both defendants were acquitted by a Liège court for lack of evidence.
During the 98th Tour de France in July 2011, Kolobnew tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide , which is often used to mask other doping substances, and was subsequently suspended by his team, Katyusha. The analysis of the B sample confirmed the doping result. In December 2011, the Katyusha team announced that Kolobnev's contract, which ran until the end of the year, would not be extended, but that ultimately happened.
Kolobnew stated that he used the substance hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) to treat a vascular disease. He was fined 1200 euros by his association for this. The world cycling association Union Cycliste Internationale had appealed to the International Court of Justice (CAS) against what it considered to be a too mild sentence . However, the judges considered it proven that the use of the drug was justified "on medical grounds" and confirmed the sentence. As early as 2009, Kolobnev's doctor stated that he would give the professional cyclist the means to treat the vascular problems.
In the course of the doping investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Padua at the end of 2014, he was suspected of having been a customer of the controversial sports medicine specialist Michele Ferrari . In December 2017 it became known that Kolobnew would have to answer the Kazakh driver Alexander Vinokurow in front of a court in Namur , Belgium, from March 2018 . He is accused by the public prosecutor of having been paid by Vinokourov in 2010 to let him win the Liège – Bastogne – Liège race for a payment of 150,000 euros. Vinokurov had defeated Kolobnev in this race. During the investigation into the Michele Ferrari affair, transfers from Vinokurov's account to Kolobnev's were noticed.
