Alexander von Koller

Alexander Freiherr von Koller (born June 3, 1813 in Prague , † May 29, 1890 in Baden near Vienna ) was an Austro-Hungarian officer, most recently a general of the cavalry .

Alexander was the son of Franz Freiherr von Koller , kuk Feldmarschallleutnant and holder of the Maria-Theresia-Order and Johanna, born von Gränzstein. His father had attained the hereditary baron status in 1809 (see also Koller (Austrian noble families) ). In 1846 Alexander married Auguste Raymann and had with her the sons Alexander and August and the daughter Johanna.

Life

His military career led Alexander through various hussar regiments , in which he held more and more responsible posts. In 1848 he was an orderly officer in the Italian Wars of Independence at the Battle of Sommacompagna, the battle at Salizone and the Battle of Custozza . In 1849 he distinguished himself in the battles at Borgo San Siro and Gambolò . In the campaign of 1859 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Leopold Order for his services , and in 1866 he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown, 2nd class. In 1866 he was promoted to field marshal lieutenant and he took over the kuk dragoon regiment "Nicholas I Emperor of Russia" No. 5 and in 1868 became head of the Lieutenancy in Prague . For his services he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown 1st Class and was appointed a Really Privy Councilor . Alexander was appointed governor and commanding general to Bohemia in 1871 through the post of military commander of Pressburg . There he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Leopold. In 1873 he was promoted to general of the cavalry and in 1874 took up the post of Reich Minister of War . In 1876 he was retired and still awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Stephen . Other honors included lifelong membership in the manor house and the appointment as captain of the first Arcièren bodyguard . The honorary citizenship was offered to him by several Bohemian localities.

According to a local press release of May 29, 1890, after a long and serious illness, Baron Koller had "improved significantly" - in the next edition of the local paper on May 31, 1890, the death of Koller and the in Baden's upcoming funeral, in which even Emperor Franz Joseph I was attending, are reported.
