Alexei Igorewitsch Marchenko ( Russian Алексей Игоревич Марченко ; English transcription: Alexei Igorevich Marchenko ; born January 2, 1992 in Moscow ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been with Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the Continental Hockey League (KHL.) Since May 2020 plays in the position of defender .
Career
Alexei Martschenko began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HK CSKA Moscow , for whose second team he was active in the third-rate Pervaya League in the 2008/09 season . In the 2009/10 season , the defender made his debut for the professional team of HK CSKA Moscow in the Continental Hockey League . In his rookie year , he remained pointless and punished in ten games. Parallel to the game with CSKA in the KHL, he has been playing for its junior team Krasnaja Armija in the multinational junior league Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga since 2009 and won the Kharlamov Cup , the championship title of the MHL, with the team in the 2010/11 season .
Towards the end of the 2013/14 season Marchenko made his debut in the National Hockey League and subsequently established himself in the Red Wings squad. When Martschenko was to be sent again to the Grand Rapids Griffins , the farm team of the Red Wings from the American Hockey League (AHL), via the waiver in February 2017 , the Toronto Maple Leafs signed him . There he ended the season before his contract was terminated in August 2017 and he returned to his home country for HK CSKA Moscow. The Russian played there for a total of three years and won the Gagarin Cup with the team in 2019 . In May 2020 he finally moved to Lokomotive Yaroslavl within the league .
International
At the 2016 World Cup , Marchenko made his debut for the national team of his home country and won the bronze medal with the team. A little later he also represented Russia at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 . The defender then won the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics with Sbornaya, who started under a neutral flag .
